Compliance Inspections & Government Agencies Using Handheld PDAs

I have had the opportunity of speaking and meeting with many government agencies on the topic of mobilizing field inspection processes. I recently wrote about one project in this November 2006 blog article. Much of the purpose of many government agencies is the inspection and enforcement of regulations and laws. This often takes armies of inspectors spreading out across their areas of jurisdiction each morning and performing inspections, re-inspection, issuing warnings, citations, documenting findings, etc.

One of our good partners, Cartegraph, has as their logo - Better Government. Better government can often be achieved by improving the efficiency of these core inspection responsibilities. One way this can be achieved is through the conversion of paper inspection forms to electronic inspection forms and applications on handheld computers and Tablet PCs. These solutions allow the inspector to quickly query on past inspections, access historical information on a location, document current inspection results and synchronize the results directly back to the agency's database from the field.

In this blog article written in October 2006, I wrote about how the South African government's tax commission is using handheld computers to inspect property and to assess taxes.

In this blog article written in September 2006, I wrote about how Canyon County, Idaho is using MobileDataforce's mobile software platform to mobilize their building inspection processes.

In this blog article written in April 2006, I discuss how the Idaho Board of Pharmacy automated and mobilized their inspection processes.

In this blog article written also in September 2006, I mentioned an asset management project - that involved inspecting and taking inventory of street signs in the Village of West Dundee, IL.
